I love being asked to travel to far off lands to shoot wedding photos on destination weddings. Especially when that far off land is Maui. Hawaii has long been a favourite holiday destination of mine but I'd never shot a wedding there. So when I was asked to come to Hawaii to shoot a wedding on Maui, well, what Sydney wedding photographer would say no?

I spent a few days in Waikiki before flying to Maui the day before the wedding to meet up with Jaime and Julianne to scout the perfect spot to shoot the location photos. It needed to be somewhere close to the wedding venue and it needed to look unmistakably Hawaiian. I had a clear picture in my head of how it should look. And then we found it - only a few minutes drive from the venue, just off the road was a deserted little tropical oasis. My only reservation was that on the day of our location scouting expedition, the sun was very bright and in a slightly awkward position and I hoped the next day (the day of the wedding) would have slightly more cloud cover to filter down the bright Hawaiian summer sun... and there was. Perfect light the whole day. Plus a happy, holiday vibe. All the guests had flown in from Australia so everyone was on holiday.

Far too soon I was flying back to Waikiki for a couple more days then back to Sydney.

Great wedding, great couple, great guests, great venue and great destination.
